Here is a dynamic review https://portside.org/2025-11-16/weve-got-kill-and-kill-and-kill of the connections between Francisco Franco and the American MAGA movement, replete with Nazi dogma and virulent antisemitism.  This is MANDATORY READING in its entirety.

It Was Not Just About the Hostages  --  Cartoon and Commentary by Jesse Duquette

For two years, genocide apologists have breathlessly asserted that all that was needed to put an end to the ceaseless slaughter of Palestinians was for Hamas to “free the hostages”. This would be like the flipping of a switch they said, since the carnage was entirely due to this one point.

How peculiar, then, that the brutal massacre has decidedly not stopped and only carries on as it had before, including the murder of over 100 people last week, a third of whom were children.

As has always been apparent to anyone paying attention, it was never about freeing the hostages, and only about the total annihilation of a people to colonize all of their land.

Re: For Mamdani To Beat the NYPD, the Left Must Build Power

For a very good look at the problems posed for the incoming Mamdani administration by the NYPD and the culture of policing try Jonathan Ben-Menachem’s excellent article with useful links sent along by Portside.  Me? I have a much more positive view than the writer of Jessica Tisch’s tenure as NYPD Commissioner. In my view, she began a very difficult task of steering a formerly rudderless department. Her minimal deployment of cops at protests has cut overtime and reduced the chance of police-protester conflict.Whether and how she and the Mamdani administration might manage together important. For me and perhaps you the question is can we muster political support for non-police solutions to problems.

Policing and Public Safety a Socialist Mayor - A Panel Discussion - New York - November 22  (NY DSA Racial Justice Working Group)

The NYC-DSA Racial Justice Working Group presents a panel with abolitionist organizers, educators and policy experts to explore a critical question: What can a socialist mayor concretely do to transform public safety in New York City?

With socialist Zohran Mamdani's campaign for NYC Mayor offering new models for community safety, the question of policing and public safety has become both urgent and complex: What does it mean to be a socialist mayor who also oversees the largest and most over-resourced municipal police department in the United States?

Panelists

Alex Vitale - Author of The End of Policing and Professor of Sociology at Brooklyn College.

Cheryl Rivera - Founder of Another World (Brooklyn-based community space and movement center), Crown Heights Care Collective, and editor at socialist feminist magazine Lux.

Calvin John Smiley - Author of Defund: Conversations Toward Abolition and Professor of Sociology at Hunter College.
