The treasure hunt ends
in a scorched field
of decapitated trees.

The air is saturated
with expressions of destruction
revenge and gleeful shouts of celebration.

The suffocating language
of violence, a lexicon of war
blankets the atmosphere.

Meanwhile, the apricot tree
blossomed overnight.
