Workers’ rights in crisis everywhere

Since October 7, academic institutions have applied overt and covert pressure to discourage Holocaust and genocide scholars from criticizing Israel’s actions in Gaza. Still, many academics are organizing new networks to defend free inquiry.

Over the past year, Harvard University has systematically curtailed, suspended, or restructured every program with a serious focus on studying Palestinian rights. It’s abundantly clear that some views are not welcome on this campus.

In 1949, Paul Robeson performed the “Song of the Jewish Partisans” in Moscow, in the Yiddish original. At a time of rising Stalinist antisemitism, Robeson’s act of solidarity made clear his stand against any form of racism.

Is this a prelude to asking for the names of all Black people on campus who could have experienced or witnessed racism in the workplace? Or all women, queers, or trans people? Probably not – that would be woke DEI and critical race theory stuff.
