The Portside moderators send our heartfelt thanks to our readers, for coming through in response to our annual appeal!  This year our readers responded with the largest amount in contributions ever - $22,000 and counting.
Growth continues from year to year -- more readers, more donors and monthly sustainers. This is due to more than the important financial support. When people join movement activities and want to know where to get the latest news from left perspectives, longtime readers refer them to Portside.
As announced, we'll be tweaking the website to make it more user-friendly. Our new features have been warmly received. Soon you'll find Portside in a format that will make it ready for use on your tablet or mobile phone.
Readers' donations will help us with a new problem. In the past year, Portside and others on the left side of the Internet have been victims of cyber attacks and DOS (denial of service) attacks (making a server or a network resource unavailable to users by temporarily suspending the services of a host connected to the Internet). Protecting Portside requires costly upgrades to our operation. We are preparing for what is already turning out to be a year of contention with an off-the-leash far right.
We don't do a lot of fundraising -- just this annual appeal. We are grateful, and gratified, that the response allows us to keep to this bare minimum. None of us make any money on this venture. All donations go to the project. If you have not yet contributed, or want to join the ranks of our sustainers, you can do so by clicking here. On our secure server, you can make a contribution of whatever amount you can afford - we know these are hard times. Your contribution goes a long way in helping us do the work of Portside.
Again, many thanks from the left side of the ship - the portside. Full speed ahead in the new year.
