Dear Portside reader,

Today we launch Portside 2.0. You see some of what's new in the look of this message.
When we started Portside 12 years ago, we had a clear mission: to locate and to bring to you some of the best of the new wealth of material available on the Internet, material that helps us to understand the world and to change it. To further that mission, in the Babel of evolving standards that was the Internet, we chose the most universal language available to communicate: plain text.
That simplicity has served us well. But today it is possible to be universal and to communicate more effectively at the same time. We have the same mission and the same passion as when we began. Today we can better further that mission by speaking the current language of the Internet (HTML) and using current Internet technology.
What does that mean for you? Better communication. A much more usable web site. Hyperlinked text. Photos. Brighter pages, better typography and formatting. Integration with Facebook, Twitter and Google+.
These changes will enable you to get more from what Portside sends. They will make you more effective in sharing what you like. Please try out these new features of Portside.
At the top right of every Portside message is a menu of things you can do.

We thank the many readers whose contributions made Portside 2.0 possible. We thank all of you who journey with us by forwarding Portside material, submitting material, engaging in discussion and giving feedback.
There are exciting times ahead. We promise that Portside will be there for you and with you.
