Left Voices Amidst the Gaza Siege

__________
Philippines: Platform From PLM Congress

Partido Lakas ng Masa / Links (Sydney)

Plataporma ng Gobyerno ng Masa (Platform of the Government of the Masses), was adopted at the recently held 4th Congress of the Partido Lakas ng Masa (PLM, Party of the Labouring Masses) in the Philippines. It’s a transitional program, representing the aspirations of the masses (the working class, the urban and rural poor, or the poor classes in general) to build political power.

__________
Indigenous Pro-Democracy Protesters Paralyze Guatemala

Lauren Villagran / Yahoo! (Sunnyvale CA)

Protestors, led by indigenous groups, have been demonstrating peacefully for eight straight days and calling for the government to respect Bernardo Arévalo's landslide win as the country plunges deeper into a political crisis.

__________
Canadian Labor Defends LGBTQ Youth

Jeremy Appel  / Ricochet (Vancouver)

Across Canada, the labour movement has played a leading role nation-wide in organizing the counter-protests against this movement explicitly targeting 2SLGBTQ+ youth, which uses the same tired anti-gay clichés of yore to spread fear that the Pride movement is coming for your kids.

__________
Redirecting Die Linke

Heinz Bierbaum / Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung (Berlin)

Despite countless appeals and attempts to unite Die Linke’s various factions, and thus to stabilize the party and ensure its survival, the situation continues to deteriorate. This development could spell the end of a genuinely socialist party, whose foundation as a party to the left of the Social Democrats still represents a major historic achievement. We must prevent this from happening. But how?

Modi’s Attack on India’s NewsClick

__________
Uganda: Bobi Wine Held

South China Morning Post (Hong Kong)

Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine said on Thursday he was under house arrest after being seized by security officials on his return home from a trip abroad. Wine, a pop star-turned-politician who ran against veteran President Yoweri Museveni in Uganda’s last election in 2021, has been arrested numerous times.

__________
UK Disabled Rights Movement

Mikey Erhardt / openDemocracy (London)

Our community is organising around the need for independence and care transformation as explicit political goals through our Disabled People's Manifesto, co-written by Disabled People’s Organisations nationwide, and the National Independent Living Service platform, designed by our allies at Reclaiming Our Futures Alliance.

__________
Critique of South Africa’s Land and Agrarian Reform

Mazibuko Jara / Amandla! (Johannesburg)

Post-apartheid land reform and agricultural policies have benefited large commercial farmers and other agribusinesses, instead of existing and aspirant smallholder farmers. These policies have weakened the state’s ability to direct public resources towards a transformative agrarian reform agenda. The ANC simply does not trust the mass of people with land ownership and food production.

__________
International Panel on Just Transition

Susan Price / Green Left (Sydney)

Central to the struggle to address climate change and win a safe climate is engagement with and mobilisation around the issue by the global working class. The Global Ecosocialist Network hosted an international online forum to bring together labour activists and climate justice activists to share their experiences in building links.
