At this point cannot resist pointing out that Trump is watching too many episodes of Monty Python as his press conferences are a constant rendition on the "Now for something entirely different. More of the same"

Trump texts Norway's PM linking Nobel snub to Greenland  --  Cartoon and Commentary by Ann Telnaes

It's all about him, him, him

I had to check several news sources- The Guardian, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Reuters, even the Washington Post before I was convinced this wasn’t a hoax.

The issue is beyond the 25th Amendment. The American people have voted in a sick man without any humility or moral compass to the office of presidency.

Invasion  --  Cartoon and Commentary by Rob Rogers

Trump said he wants to invade Greenland because he felt snubbed by Norway over the Peace Prize. If anyone else said this they would be escorted to a mental health facility. Sadly, it's just another day in Trump world.

Re: How Did MLK Jr. Become a Socialist?

(Posting on Portside Labor)

Three months before his assassination's in 1968, Dr. King gave a speech at a large event organized by the magazine FREEDOMWAYS to commemorate the centenary of the birth of Dr  W.E.B. Du Bois.  In talking about Dr. Du Bois, who had publicly joined the Communist Party (CPUSA),   King said   "It is time to cease muting the fact that Dr. Du Bois was a genius and chose to be a Communist. Our irrational obsessive anti-communism has led us into too many quagmires to be retained as if it were a mode of scientific thinking."

Obsessive anti-communism is apparently what Eric Blanc was demonstrating when he wrote his article about how Dr. King came to socialism leaving out the names of Jack O'Dell, Harry Belafonte  Lorraine Hansberry and others or the connection of Rosa Parks and her husband to the Communist led movement to free the Scottsboro Nine, or the poet Don West as a co-founder of the Highlander Center.

One can't attempt to write the history of all or part the Civil Rights movement and downplay, ignore or leave out the CPUSA or individual communists or those close the party.  Dr. King was neither a communist or a marxist but he understood, without hesitation, the implications of Du Bois  choosing to join the CPUSA. Professor Blanc would do well to follow Dr. King's thinking.

This is why the stock market is in record territory: the bankers know that the government will bail them out.  They've already given them $420BILLION while they jack the cost of health insurance.

Frozen Dystopia  --  Cartoon and Commentary by Jen Sorensen

More Perfect Union has a short video that provides a decent overview of the real motivations behind the Trump administration’s interest in Greenland: rare earth minerals coveted by the tech industry, a longtime fixation on the territory by Trump ally Ron Lauder (heir to the Estee Lauder fortune), oil, and the radical libertarian fantasy of creating a “network state” city there. This last item has not received much national media attention, possibly because it seems so kooky on the surface, but some very powerful interests are serious about this. This TechCrunch article lays out a CEO’s vision of building a prototype of Elon Musk’s Mars outpost here on Earth.

Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee - helps get groceries and necessities to families forced into hiding

ICE attacks in the Twin Cities have forced many immigrant families into hiding! This keeps individuals away from their work, and children away from school.  Immigrant families and businesses are devastated.

MIRAC is fund-raising to support our beloved Latino and Somali immigrant communities during this time of fear and intimidation from federal officials.  We are also leading a movement to say No More Deportations and to say No More Collaboration between local public safety officials and federal ICE officers.

MIRAC Education Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and so all donations are tax exempt.

MIRAC is an all-volunteer grassroots organization that has mobilized and educated the immigrant community and their allies since 2006. We believe that no one is illegal and center our work under this belief. We are led by predominantly BIPOC and immigrant community members. For over 19 years, MIRAC has mobilized community members to take action through community education, protests, marches, and demonstrations.
