The events in McKinney make a stronger argument than could almost any lawyer for why the court should affirm the importance of racially and economically integrated residential areas.

Thousands of low-income renters and homeowners are displaced every year by a property law system with misplaced priorities. We all pay when people are involuntarily displaced because of increased crime, skyrocketing medical costs and a failing educational system.
Among people who have moved long distances, the number of those who cite housing as their primary motivation for doing so has more than doubled since 2007.
We need a mayor who will make affordable housing permanent.
