While keeping people focused on a strong, robust election process is a must, we also need to prepare for a coup.

If the vote is close, Donald Trump could easily throw the election into chaos and subvert the result. Who will stop him? Let us not hedge about one thing. Donald Trump may win or lose, but he will never concede.

Many observers—including Republicans—worry that he is. They’re organizing now to stop him. Given the administration’s record of embracing “numerous corrupt and authoritarian practices,” huge numbers of Americans must be ready to take to the streets

The commander of Bolivia’s armed forces General Williams Kaliman—trained by the U.S. military—“suggested” that Morales resign. Morales offered a re-election. It was rejected in place of a coup. There has been no election in Bolivia since the coup.

US media has a history of supporting right-wing coups and not much seems to be changing. That media narratives remain unchanged even after acknowledgment of new evidence indicates it is official dogma, not reality, that sets the tone for coverage.

Trump’s earlier hopes to win based on a strong economy and conquest of the coronavirus have faded. He needs another emotional issue that responds to people’s need for security: public order.
