Fascism is not just about violence. It’s also about politics. Today’s fascists are not embarrassed by their attacks on democracy. They apologize for nothing, ever. They are only embarrassed by the label of “fascist.”

Pence tried to have it both ways, to inherit the mantle of both old-line conservatism and Trump’s toxic brand of white-nationalist demagoguery.  The chances are he’ll gain neither.  This verdict of his Nuremburg is likely to be political oblivion.

Written two years ago, over the controversy created by inviting Steven Bannon to "discuss fascism" at a public forum, the conclusions of this article are relevant for today, with the coup of January 6 and the pardon of Bannon by Donald Trump.
