The people of New York decided earlier this year that the person they most trusted to decrease the cost of living is Zohran Mamdani. Just a few months later, the craze for a leftist mayor crossed the Atlantic and reached the German capital Berlin.

On Sunday, Germany’s socialist party Die Linke won the Berlin elections for the first time. Like New York’s Zohran Mamdani, it beat the establishment parties by offering Berliners concrete action on rents and the cost of living.
