ISIS wants civilian deaths caused by the U.S. and its partners. We should not give that to them.

After seven months of unending battle in that single city, perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising that Mosul has receded from the news here, even as civilian casualties grow, at least half a million Iraqis have been displaced, and the Iraqi military has suffered grievous losses.
US Central Command says it is researching reports of extensive loss of civilian life in third such alleged incident in recent weeks.
As the Mosul offensive continues, it has become clear that it is the Americans who decide whether assaults continue, troops advance or tactical pauses are made.
