From Venezuela to Yemen to Iran, the extrajudicial slaughter of civilians has been allowed to continue. What we are witnessing in the Caribbean and elsewhere today has been years in the making. Who will put a stop to it?

To contest the legitimacy of Trump/Hegseth initiatives we need to intertwine empathy for rank and file members of the military placed in situations they never should have been, with antipathy for those decisions and decision-makers.

Though many wrote it off as a political stunt, it was clear the gathering was much more important than many realized, offering the clearest articulation yet of how the Trump administration thinks about and hopes to use military power.

What the Trump administration is portraying as a drug mission may be about a lot more. Even as the Pentagon is being quiet about details of the operations, it is being vocal about the threat it is laying down.

Hegseth’s speech was vile. It was also stupid.

In an unprecedented move, Pete Hegseth has summoned all U.S. generals and admirals from around the globe to an in-person meeting. The purpose is not clear. Here are some questions these military leaders should be asking, and some answers.
