More Than Ever - Message from the Portside Moderators

Do you like Portside and believe we need reporting, analysis and discussion from a left perspective to meet the challenges of a Trump administration? *Please donate to support this work.* Do you want to see more about the grassroots movement to oppose bigotry and reaction and about how to construct an alternative? *We appeal to you once a year to invest in that that future.* It may be the best return on investment you'll ever get.

Dear Portside Reader,
We're all trying to figure out the next steps after the election. So many face immediate threats from both fascist-leaning Trump supporters and the far right Republican state in waiting. We and millions of others refuse to accept this... We will build and continue the fightback...this is not the country and world we want, this is not what we want to leave to our children and grandchildren.
We have been producing Portside since 2000, but the current moment is the most critical since that time. Please respond to our annual plea for support here.
From reading Portside, you know about the high school walkouts, the street marches led by young women and students, the outcry of the water protectors, Dreamers, and Black Lives Matter. We reject the suggestion that we have any common cause with the Trump/RNC/GOP jackal pack. As a mass opposition takes shape, Portside is more important than ever.
We provide information and a much-needed platform for discussion and debate. These are services that a national media of, by, and for the left must offer. We expect corporate media to continue to play a mixed role. Portside will continue to be partisan, both as a gadfly against the 1% and a platform for the 99%.
So as we come around with our annual appeal, the Portside collective hopes you consider the service we provide. Despite very real dangers, the election results show that new alliances can be built, and those disaffected and most vulnerable need to be defended. Portside will be a vehicle for the ever-growing movement against Trump's reactionary poison and his promised attacks on society. We will share examples of what is being done, both actions and events, and information and analysis along the way.
Portside is crowd-sourced, and we welcome submission of thoughtful analyses and news of solidarity and movement-building for possible inclusion in our postings, by using this webform.
Can you help? Once again, we have "difficult days ahead." But the potential for rebuilding and refocusing is evident in the serious tone of post-election discourse. National media of our own is needed.
That's our pitch. We always operate on a shoestring - we're profit-free, all volunteers getting by with small donations. But we intend to grow, to meet this unprecedented challenge. That will require you, our subscribers and the friends with whom you share our posts, joining the effort with your financial support. We urge you to make a tax-deductible contribution right away.
So please drop in on our secure donation page, and give us a hand. This can be a one-time contribution, or you can become a regular sustainer in whatever amount you can afford. If you would prefer to mail a contribution, please send to the address at the bottom of this email.
At a time like this, a donation to Portside is an investment in the future of the Left. And your friends, co-workers, neighbors and family could also benefit from a subscription to Portside. Just refer them to our subscribe link, or have them email us at portside@portside.org .
Yours in struggle,
