As if you needed more reasons to watch a show starring Oscar-winner Julie Andrews, her new Netflix children's show, Julie's Greenroom, features a character who identifies as gender neutral.
Julie Andrews, excuse me, Ms. Julie teaches performing arts workshops to a class of Jim Hensen puppets. The show feels especially poignant considering the controversy over President Trump working to cut arts programs in schools.
The five children/puppets are from a wide range of backgrounds, including Hank, who's in a wheelchair, and Riley, who the show creator describes as gender neutral. Emma Walton Hamilton, Andrews' daughter and Julie's Greenroom co-creator, told the New York Times "If pressed, we’d say that she’s a girl, but maybe not forever." My inner 7-year-old is squealing in excitement.
The show also boasts an impressive number of celebrity appearances, including Alec Baldwin, Carol Burnett, Josh Groban, Idina Menzel, Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Chris Colfer, and original music by Sara Bareilles.
