When I was 20, I knew why I was protesting. The injustice was visible. The stakes were clear. Today the danger is no less visible though it is wrapped in patriotic language and asks us to confuse loyalty to a person with loyalty to the Constitution.

A Chile’s Court sentenced three former DINA officers to 15 years in prison for the 1976 assassination of U.S. citizen Ronnie Moffitt during a transnational operation targeting diplomat Orlando Letelier.

Launched in 1975 from Pinochet’s Chile, Operation Condor was a secret police operation of “cross-border repression, [whose] teams … launch[ed] assassination missions and other criminal operations in the United States, Mexico and Europe.”
