Prospects of reaching the U.S. border are remote after Trump’s crackdown on migration as Mexico and Guatemala tighten control on migrants

The slogan "Abolish ICE" means the removal of Attorney General Sessions, repeal of laws that criminalize migration, an end to all forms of detention, the defunding of Border Patrol, and a halt to ongoing immigration enforcement programs.

After hearing the news of the impending closure of the immigrant detention center, the families of a dozen detainees and their supporters held a rally outside. But advocates want detainees freed, not sent to for-profit jails.

Detaining immigrant children has morphed into a surging industry in the U.S. that now reaps $1 billion annually — a tenfold increase over the past decade.

Welcoming Central American refugees is the smart thing to do. In time they will contribute much to our society. It’s the right thing to do. It gives us a chance to reckon with the history that brought them here and begin to take responsibility for it
