About two months after the hostage exchange deal blew up, we can state with certainty that the decision to stop it was a terrible mistake. We must say clearly that the hostages have to be freed through a deal. That is the only way.

Gaza is being devastated as we watch. A stated goal of Israel’s assault, is to “destroy Hamas”. Israel’s goal is less to vanquish Hamas—impossible in any case—than to finally expel Palestinians from Gaza without international censure or sanction.
