A new generation of doctors struggling with ever-increasing workloads and crushing student debt is helping drive unionization efforts in a profession that historically hasn't organized.
As streaming content has boomed, the Writers Guild of America says that new media models like Netflix and other online platforms have steadily eroded workers' pay and writers' ability to earn a living in Hollywood. Some 11,500 members are on strike.
Music supervisors requested Netflix and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers voluntarily recognize their union earlier this year, which would have skipped the step of a formal election, but they declined.
