About 560 Starbucks locations have voted for union representation since the first vote to unionize four years ago, according to the union Starbucks Workers United.
Most of the affected employees who held hourly positions will receive $50 for each week worked from July 2021 through July 2024, according to the city.
After years of scorched-earth union-busting and stonewalling tactics by their bosses, Starbucks workers are trying to get their union drive and contract negotiations unstuck through a nationwide strike.
Ninety years ago, a recognition strike was the main way to unionize. "Everyone keeps asking if we're scared," said striking casino dealer Tera Arnold. "I’ve never been so not scared of anything in my life. I feel powerful."
