Can Biden Achieve Progress Where It Matters While Avoiding a New Cold (or Hot) War?

The last-minute designation of Cuba as a state sponsor of terror will make it harder for the incoming Biden administration to lift sanctions and renormalize relations with the island nation.

"An extensive network of groups financed by the US government sends cash to Cuba to thousands of so-called 'democracy activists', journalists and dissidents every year."

The bottom line is that U.S. Africa policy will be most productive if U.S. policymakers are willing to learn and collaborate rather than to preach or dictate.

“This is most definitely a global issue…We must not allow the call for human rights to be hijacked. Accountability must be part of the justice and democratic system.”

Maybe this time we can finally ask whether trying to prop up a dying empire actually makes us -- or indeed the world -- any safer. This is the best chance in a generation to start that conversation.

The bulk of our progressive forces are focused on policy at the local or national level, paying much less attention to global dimensions. But the need for an internationalist agenda will tend to become more and more apparent as they grow in power.
