During a recent visit to Vietnam, People's World sat down with Bui The Giang, the Director General for Western Europe and North America Affairs for the Communist Party of Vietnam's Commission of External Relations. In the course of this in-depth talk, Giang discussed Vietnam's journey towards economic prosperity, its commitment to sticking to a socialist trajectory, and efforts to preserve the legacy of revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh.

Rev. Daniel Berrigan, the renowned anti-war activist, award-winning poet, author and Jesuit priest, who inspired religious opposition to the Vietnam war and later the U.S. nuclear weapons industry, died at age 94, just a week shy of his 95th birthday.

American history is littered with examples of pointless wars fought for bad reasons, and with people who risked their careers and their freedom to oppose them. some wars aren't worth fighting. Some causes aren't worth sacrificing American lives for. Those who've fought to remind the government of those basic facts deserve our respect and our thanks.

Michael Yates presents an analysis of how the war was conducted, what its consequences have been for the Vietnamese, how the nature of the war generated ferocious opposition to it (not least by a brave core of U.S. soldiers), how the war's history has been whitewashed, and why it is important to both know what happened in Vietnam and why we should not forget it.

This Memorial Day, let us remember the men and women soldiers who have suffered and died from war-caused conditions called variably soldier's heart in the Civil War, shell shock in the First World War, PTSD in the Vietnam War, and moral injury in the Iraq War...Let us not forget those who died from the nightmares of war - at their own hand.

Speech by Laurel Krause from the 45th anniversary of the Kent State Massacre on May 4, 2015. My sister Allison Beth Krause was one of four Kent State students killed by the Ohio National Guard. She was peacefully protesting the Vietnam war on that day and for this she was killed by the US government national guard. I was shocked when the American leadership blamed my sister and other Kent State students for the violence, the bloodshed and the massacre.
