poetry Election Results

Poet Beau Beausoleil contemplates the horrors which await the American public as a result of the recent election.

The knives
and the
sharpening
stones

laid out
in plain
sight

waiting

***

We misunderstood
the length of the nightmare
and those who populated it

brown shirts
black shirts
white shirts
work shirts

Some with red noses
and big floppy shoes
some with weapons

we laughed
until the clown cars
turned back this way

and began to run over
each of us again
with merriment and glee
