Choosing to Study Medicine in Cuba

The Latin American School of Medicine, or E.L.A.M., was established by the Cuban government, in 1999. All of the students are international. Many come from Asia, Africa, and the United States, coming from low-income and marginalized communities.

N.Y. Teamsters Form ‘Sanctuary Union’ to Fight ICE Agents

Across Long Island and throughout the city, some 120,000 Teamsters are getting prepped to become a “sanctuary union.” In 27 shops, business agents, supervisors and front-line workers are getting schooled on their rights under U.S. law — and when and how to challenge federal immigration agents who show up to search their work sites. In fundamental labor terms, it follows one simple rule: Union solidarity first, immigration status second.

Hurricane Irma struck last week. Now, the people of Florida, of the Caribbean, of Cuba, they need your help and solidarity. Here are ways you can help rebuild Florida, help the frontline and people of color communities, help the Immokalee Farmworkers, who were amongst the hardest hit, and the poorest; and how you can help the Cuban people, whose doctors are out there helping others in the Caribbean. Please do what you can.
