100 years ago Henry Ford bought the Dearborn Independent to channel his virulent anti-Semitism. A local journal examined Ford’s bigotry and its sway in today’s white supremacist media, but Dearborn’s mayor censored the magazine and fired the editor.

Attacks on the Women's March are counterproductive for everyone. The fight for social justice requires us to face and address together and compassionately the fundamental differences used to keep many communities apart and in fear of each other.

After the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute withdrew the annual Fred L. Shuttlesworth Human Rights Award from Angela Davis, the outcry in Birmingham, nationally and internationally has been massive. Angela will be in Birmingham February 16.

Last week Portside posted Rosalind P. Petchesky's piece, An Appeal to Jewish Women to Support the 2019 Women’s March and Its Leaders. Preserving the unity and diversity of the anti-Trump movement is crucial. Here are responses from Portside readers.

Two things can be true at once. Jews are individually and collectively victims of anti-Semitism - violence, hate speech, bigotry, and prejudice - and Jewish people are beneficiaries and upholders of the American system of white supremacy.

The murderer who slaughtered eleven elderly Jewish worshipers at Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh targeted his prey not only for being Jews but also for being supporters of immigrants and refugees. We need to learn from this.

American Jews have nothing to fear from the new congressional critics of Israel. Naturally, conservatives in the United States — though not only conservatives — have denounced Tlaib and Omar’s stance as anti-Semitic. It is not.

The attacks are a threat to academic freedom and the criticism of Israeli human-rights abuses. CNN should immediately reinstate its former commentator; it should not cave in to the idea that criticizing Israel is anti-Semitic or hate speech.
