LA Times Editorial Calls BDS 'Classic Tool of Political Expression'; BDS - 12 Years and Growing Strong

Los Angeles Times; Philip Weiss; Palestinian BDS Natl Comm
Truly free countries tolerate peaceful dissent. The 50-year occupation of the Palestinian territories seized during the Six-Day War has gone on for too long and must eventually be brought to an end. For Israeli authorities to demonize — or exclude — those who publicly oppose it is a terrible mistake. - Los Angeles Times Editorial.

The Chicago Dyke March, and Questions of Anti-Zionism, Anti-Semitism, and Pinkwashing

Chicago Jewish Voice for Peace; IfNotNow Chicago
The Chicago Dyke March, the annual gay rights march without corporate sponsorship has anti-racist core values. In the march's Jewish contingent were Jews who were Zionists, and anti-Zionists, but who supported gay and Palestinian rights. There was an incident involving a few who did not support Palestinian rights, and a massive debate and controversy has evolved. Here are statements from Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow, supporting the position of CDMC.

Israeli Police Broke My Arm, But They Can’t Stop Me From Resisting — Or Speaking Out

Sarah Brammer-Shlay; and Ethan Buckner; Natasha Roth Forward
What I’m experiencing in this moment is a small example of how the occupation is used to take away agency from the Palestinian people on a daily basis. Each and every day, Palestinians are subjected to arbitrary checkpoints which delay their travel, restricted water which strips them of basic dignity, home demolitions which tear families apart, and constant surveillance that has seeped into every aspect of Palestinian society. I am broken but not finished.

The Uses and Abuses of Anti-Semitism

Jason Farbman with Rebecca Vilkomerson, Rabbi Brant Rosen Jacobin
Campaigns to silence criticism of Israel don’t protect Jews — they endanger them. A national conversation on what antisemitism is — and what it isn’t — is long overdue. Recent reshuffling among the Trump administration may have Steve Bannon on the outs, but we are only weeks removed from a white supremacist as “the shadow president.”

American-turned-Israeli Journalist Crushes Liberal Zionism

(((James North))) Mondoweiss
A one-time defender of Israeli policy toward the Palestinians, the well-regarded journalist has had an extended and systematic rethink that is part memoir and part scourging critique, concluding that the reigning Israeli consensus, abetted by the U.S. and shared by liberal Zionists, is less a victim and more a provocateur, with a long list of moral and ethical lapses and a compelling case for world censure and well-deserving of boycott, disinvestment and sanctions.

Is Anti-Zionism Inherently Anti-Semitic?

Stephen Zunes National Catholic Reporter
It certainly is not anti-Semitic to argue that whatever emancipatory elements that Zionism may have provided some Jews has been more than offset by the expulsion, occupation, repression and killings of the indigenous Palestinian inhabitants. While Zionism can be seen as a national liberation movement for Jews, it undeniably also has characteristics of a colonial settler state.

When `Broad City' Went On Birthright, and Taught Us All a Lesson About American Jews and Israel

Alex Shams Mondoweiss
With a budget of nearly $50 million a year, Birthright has taken hundreds of thousands of Jewish youths over the last two decades on its whirlwind trips to Israel. Critics charge that Birthright conflates Judaism and Zionism and encourages unconditional Jewish support for Israel by offering a misleading and blatantly propagandistic narrative of Israeli history that erases Palestinians while glorifying Israeli atrocities.
