The historical connections were on full display during Wednesday’s violence at the Capitol.

Republican state lawmakers from across the country traveled to D.C. on Wednesday. At least one joined the siege of the U.S. Capitol Building.

This violence was fomented in the open, and not for the first time. Right-wing activists have made a habit of organizing in the open and galvanizing supporters to express their desire for violent confrontation.

The bill has nearly 160 cosponsors, a sign of the broad support among House Democrats to take action in the wake of the violence at the Capitol. It says Trump should be removed and disqualified from holding public office again.

Congress expelled 14 members for supporting sedition and insurrection previously who supported the Confederacy against the union in 1861. Today we also have seditious members of Congress who sought to overthrow the election of the president.

With his incitement of a direct assault on the people’s house, Trump has forfeited his claim to finish his term. The House must again impeach him, and the Senate must vote to remove him. It must bar him from ever again serving in public office.
