As a Jew, an Israeli citizen, and a professional lobbyist (ahem, activist), I speak from personal experience when I say that AIPAC is tremendously effective, and the lubricant that makes its operation hum is dollar, dollar bills.

100 years ago Henry Ford bought the Dearborn Independent to channel his virulent anti-Semitism. A local journal examined Ford’s bigotry and its sway in today’s white supremacist media, but Dearborn’s mayor censored the magazine and fired the editor.

After the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute withdrew the annual Fred L. Shuttlesworth Human Rights Award from Angela Davis, the outcry in Birmingham, nationally and internationally has been massive. Angela will be in Birmingham February 16.

Two things can be true at once. Jews are individually and collectively victims of anti-Semitism - violence, hate speech, bigotry, and prejudice - and Jewish people are beneficiaries and upholders of the American system of white supremacy.
