Is destroying or saving U.S. democracy what the upcoming election is all about? Political scientist C.J. Polychroniou says it is high time that we did away with the political rhetoric when it comes to U.S. democracy and look at the facts.

"Donald Trump can tweet, and he can pout, and he can make whatever statements he wants to make. But this election will not be over here in Pennsylvania until we can deduce the will of the people."

Enthusiasm for strikes, walkouts, sick-outs, and pickets has surged. A new, progressive wing of the Democratic Party, represented by young women of color like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar—has won the enthusiasm of millions of young people.

Three things are key: engaging as many people as possible in demonstrations and non-cooperation; asserting that we are the true defenders of democracy; and committing to strategic nonviolence.

Strategy and hard work can accomplish two essential objectives: win victories that deliver substantial immediate benefits to all affected by today’s interlocking health, economic and racial crises and do so in ways that shift power our way.

After months of organizing that included the establishment of two protest encampments, Philadelphia’s unhoused people successfully pushed the city to agree to provide housing on a community land trust on October 14.

We must see real estate market for what it truly is: an institution rooted in settler colonialism that allows land (and the housing that sits atop it) to be distributed and controlled by those who have enough money for their preferences to matter.

Buried in Trump's 2017 Tax Cut Act are automatic tax increases every two years from 2021 to 2027. All taxpayers with incomes of $75,000 and under (about 65 percent of taxpayers) will face a higher tax rate in 2027 than in 2019. Elections matter.

If the president wins again, we have so much more to lose.
