The relationship between contemporary antisemitism and Islamophobia in Eastern Europe, and the process wherein these states have tightened their international partnership with Israel on the one hand, while presenting anti-Jewish hatred at home.
The worst possible outcome seems to be playing out. The current developments in Eastern Europe have at least six medium- to long-term geopolitical consequences — all of which are deeply worrying.
The war is shaped by global neoliberalism, sexism, and racism—not just Cold War dynamics. Only by understanding Eastern Europe beyond the old dichotomies of the free West versus the authoritarian East can we begin to grasp the war’s significance.
