Why is the United States Olympic Committee protecting USA Gymnastics? Whatever the reason, it’s time for it to stop. Why, amid what is one of the worst sexual-abuse scandals in sports history — one much bigger than the Penn State scandal that took down the longtime football coach Joe Paterno, an athletic director and a university president — hasn’t the Olympic committee fully held the gymnastics federation accountable for its incompetence?

Last week, hours after the disclosure of #TrumpTapes, and the gloating predatory and misogynist language Donald Trump used, New York Times best-selling author, survivor, and Twitter legend Kelly Oxford asked sexual assault survivors to share their stories. The result is nothing short of harrowing. Teen Vogue magazine shared some of the most immediate responses the next day. Today, there are even more allegations of Trump's sexual assualts and the defense by GOP leaders.

Despite decades of attention, the proportion of girls in the juvenile justice system has increased and their challenges have remained remarkably consistent, resulting in deeply rooted systemic gender injustice. The literature is clear that girls in the justice system have experienced abuse, violence, adversity, and deprivation across many of the domains of their lives—family, peers, intimate partners, and community.

Nike has radically transformed its feminist credentials globally. Few organizations carry as much global power and authority on the economic needs of young poor women as the Nike Foundation, which was founded in 2004 and is led by CEO Maria Eitel, former special media assistant for President George H.W Bush [1]. Under Eitel’s leadership, Nike has turned into a global ‘adolescent girls expert', whose campaigns are endorsed by international women’s rights groups.

Men now outnumber women on the planet by 60 million, the highest ever recorded. Preference for sons in India and China is driving the trend, but those two countries are not the only ones struggling with an imbalanced population.
