We are appalled to see military weapons, vehicles and equipment once again deployed in U.S. cities to control community members who are reacting to a long history of state-sanctioned violence.

The video of Floyd's death is horrific but not surprising; terrible but not unusual, depicting a kind of incident that is periodically reënacted. It's necessary and, pedestrian to observe that policing in this country is mediated by race.

Across the board, Ilhan Omar has been a stalwart champion of policies to improve life for the working classes, including the white working class often considered Trump's base - and, perhaps, a few of those folks who were chanting for her removal.
