There are now 567,000 fewer educators in public schools than at the beginning of the pandemic. “What we must have is a high-quality, experienced, certified, and stable public education workforce.”

The latest rightwing attack on public schools has been raging for more than a year with angry, screaming parent groups disrupting school board meetings threatening jobs and lives of educators. Those weren’t actually spontaneous grassroots protests.

Most schoolchildren get only an hour or two of climate education per year. It’s up to their parents to teach them optimism and action in the face of a daunting crisis.

I would be failing future generations if I did not to write about who owns the narrative of our country’s evolution. It is difficult to have productive discourse about liberty and justice in this country if we don’t first have command of basic truths

Return to Normal pushed schools to a crisis point. How do you run a school without enough staff? Zoom-learning was soul-crushingly devoid of laughter and energy of a traditional classroom and could never serve as a replacement for hands-on learning.

Schools and other officials can try persuasion first, but — eventually — they should be ready to do more.

Now more than ever, they need to keep their focus and pass their agenda. But is that what they think? Democrats need to change the topic to what they have accomplished while in power. But of course they have to accomplish it first.
