While Biden has consistently rejected calls to steer additional US Armed Forces into Ukraine, the Russian invasion could create pressure on US forces to provide tactical assistance, training, and more for the Ukrainians.
In a country where journalists are regularly arrested and detained for little or no reason, publicly signing a letter opposing the government’s action is a brave thing to do, especially for those who have already been detained for their journalism.
Vladimir Putin has launched his invasion of Ukraine, seemingly expecting that his forces can subdue Ukrainian resistance. But the attack could severely destabilize his regime — with Russians already showing a notable lack of enthusiasm for war.
Political leaders don’t consult economists before they start wars. If they did, we’d have world peace. Just one day in, oil futures hovered near $100 a barrel - higher than they’d been since 2014, and it’s predicted they’ll rise to $125 or $150.
